The Photomicrographic Competition

Each year the Club holds a photographic competition and the results are displayed at the annual exhibition. The judges award 1st, 2nd and 3rd and sometimes an honourable mention is given where other images are thought worthy of such a distinction.

The winners of the 2007 competition were:

Winner and Photographer of the year - left hand image - Weathered glass showing iridescence - Epi illumination
Second - middle image - Portrait of Daphnia pulex. Live wet mount.
Third -right hand image - Detail from proboscis of blow fly. Differential interference contrast. Stack of images combined with Helicon Focus
Honourable mention - bottom image - Beetle on stick. Chysolina polita. 33 images combined in Helicon Focus Lite.

Winner and Photographer of the year - left hand image - Ant -Myrmica rubra
Second - middle image - Honey bee - pollen basket
Third - right hand image - Fossil Bracionid wasp in Dominican amber
Honourable mention - left hand bottom image - Barbules of Magpie's wingfeather
Honourable mention - right hand bottom image - Rhizopus growing hyphae

Some images from the 2008 Annual Exhibition

The annual exhibition is held at the Natural History Museum, London and a report with images is published in the Members' area of the website. The images shown here depict members and visitors examining the exhibits and bottom left the Photographic competition (Photographer of the year award).
